1. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information.

The VIES VAT Validator extension operates entirely on your local device. We have no servers that receive or store your data.

2. Data Stored Locally

The extension stores the following data locally in your browser using Chrome's Storage API:

Verification History: VAT numbers you've verified, along with results (company name, address, validation status)
Settings: Your preferences (default country, text selection toggle)
Cache: Recent verification results (expires after 24 hours)
Statistics: Count of verifications performed

This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party.

3. External Services

The extension communicates with one external service:

EU VIES API (ec.europa.eu) - Official European Commission service for VAT number validation

When you verify a VAT number, the number is sent directly to the official EU VIES API. This is a public service operated by the European Commission. We do not proxy or intercept this communication.

4. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions:

storage: To save your verification history and settings locally in your browser
activeTab: To detect text selection on the current page for quick VAT verification
clipboardWrite: To allow you to copy verification results to clipboard
alarms: To periodically clean expired cache entries
Host permission (ec.europa.eu): To communicate with the official EU VIES API

5. Data Sharing

We do not share any data with third parties.

The only external communication is between your browser and the official EU VIES API when you perform a verification.

6. Data Retention

Verification History: Stored indefinitely until you clear it manually or uninstall the extension
Cache: Automatically expires after 24 hours
Settings: Stored until you reset them or uninstall the extension

7. Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

View: Access your verification history anytime through the extension
Export: Download your data in JSON or CSV format
Delete: Clear all history and data using the "Clear All" button
Uninstall: Removing the extension deletes all associated data from your browser

8. Children's Privacy

This extension is intended for business use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
